If you think dieting is the way to lose weight and keep it off, you might be a fan of boycotts and not of changing your spending and usage habits.

The point here is, that diets affect folks in the short term, but not in the long unless you keep them up.

If you want to keep yourself healthy, you change your eating habits and exercise habits.

The same sort of thing applies to boycotts. They're typically a short term solution to a long term problem.
