Nonpartisan, civil rights advocacy group, I Do Not Comply, holds a rally in front of Peachtree Corners City Hall in Peachtree Corners, Georgia to protest the recent decision by the city council to implement (AI)-powered security cameras with the ability to tell if people are violating COVID regulations. The cameras can detect crowds to determine if people are violating social distancing requirements, and pick out individuals who aren't wearing required face masks.
“The implementation of this type of surveillance sets a very dangerous precedent. When city officials can use artificial intelligence to monitor and ultimately police who you congregate with and what you’re wearing on your face, we are entering a level of big brother surveillance the likes of which we have only seen in dystopian science fiction. We have to stand firm now in resisting and opposing this sort of technology and surveillance. This is not about safety, it’s about control” says Kilgore Rand, spokesperson for I Do Not Comply.

The AI surveillance technology has been supplied by Cawamo, an Israeli security firm specializing in A.I. (artificial intelligence) surveillance. According to the company, Peachtree Corners is the first city to utilize the their system. Cawamo describes itself as a "private company backed by a few investors."
The city said it purchased "onsite equipment" at an undisclosed cost, but that monitoring would be provided free by Cawamo. the cameras will be able to "monitor gatherings and alert city personnel" if guidelines are not being followed.

Cawamo’s high-performance AI and deep machine learning engine can detect in real-time people gathering in groups in public areas and alert the relevant safety authorities – i.e. in shopping malls, commercial and government locations.  It can also send a vocal (voice alert) warning to the gathering crowd.  All events are recorded, including video images of pre- and post-alerts.
