THE PATTERN:
16 inches wide at widest point x 64 inches long as neck edge (blocked)
Materials
Berroco Vintage Dk acrylic/wool/nylon light (light worsted) yarn (31/2 oz/ 290 yds/100g per hank):
2 hanks #2183 lilacs https://www.lovecrafts.com/en-us/p/be...

Size J/10/6mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
Size 35/19mm knitting needle https://amzn.to/2Yg9zzi

Tapestry needle
Gauge
4 broomstick lace group rep = 4 inches; 4 pattern rows = 4 inches
Take time to check gauge.
Pattern Notes
Always pull up just one loop per stitch. The number of stitches will change.
When removing loops from knitting needle, be sure that loops do not get pulled or twisted before working single crochet into them. The first ch 1 of row of single crochet will lock the loops at the beginning of row.
Shawlette
Row 1: Ch 4, 3 tr in 4th ch from hook, do not turn. (3 tr) (I like this better than what I demonstrated... you decide!)

Row 2: Working left to right, sl last lp on hook onto knitting needle, [insert hook in next tr, yo, pull lp through st and sl onto knitting needle] across, do not turn, sl first 4 lps from knitting needle onto hook, yo, pull lp through all 4 lps on hook, ch 1, 8 sc in same 4-lp group, do not turn. (1 group, 8 sc)

Row 3: Work 8 lps onto knitting needle, sl next 4 lps off knitting needle onto hook, yo, pull lp through all 4 lps on hook, ch 1, 4 sc in same group, sl last 4 lps off hook, yo, pull lp through all 4 lps on hook, 4 sc in same group, do not turn.
Row 4: Work 8 lps onto knitting needle, sl first 4 lps from knitting needle onto hook, yo, pull lp through all 4 lps on hook, ch 1, 6 sc in same 4-lp group, sl last 4 lps from knitting needle onto hook, 6 sc in same group, do not turn. (2 groups, 12 sc)

Row 5: Work 1 lp for each sc onto knitting needle, sl first 4 lps from knitting needle onto hook, yo, pull lp through all 4 lps on hook, ch 1, 4 sc in same group, [sl next 4 lps off hook, yo, pull lp through all 4 lps on hook, 4 sc in same group] across, do not turn.

Row 6 (increase): Work 1 lp for each sc onto knitting needle, sl first 4 lps from knitting needle onto hook, yo, pull lp through all 4 lps on hook, ch 1, 6 sc in same group, sl next 4 lps off knitting needle onto hook, yo, pull lp through all 4 lps on hook, ch 1, 6 sc in same group, [sl next 4 lps off hook, yo, pull lp through all 4 lps on hook, 4 sc in same group] across, do not turn.

Rows 7–26: [Rep rows 5 and 6 alternately] 10 times.
Row 27: Rep row 5. (14 groups, 56 sc)
