Credit: Scott Sturkol | Date Taken: 01/22/2021
Fort McCoy Archaeologist Ryan Howell with the Directorate of Public Works Environmental Division Natural Resources Branch discusses finding real property documentation about Fort McCoy that was from pre-World War II during an interview Jan. 22, 2021, at Fort McCoy, Wis. Howell started working as an archaeologist and cultural resources manager at the installation in 2020 and said the find of dozens of photos and documents about now-extinct architecture on Fort McCoy's South Post is special. The find includes a full description of the installation's current oldest structure and more about what was Camp McCoy in the 1920s and 1930s. Howell is working with several agencies to scan and fully document everything that was found. (U.S. Army Video by Scott T. Sturkol, Public Affairs Office, Fort McCoy, Wis.)
