The Missing 1929 Ford Model A Highboy Drag Roadster
The father and his two brothers ran this car along the Eastern seaboard and Southeast from @1959 to @1964. Sold it to the Creepers Car Club in Marietta and they ran it for a few years until maybe the early 1970's. Creepers sold it to someone else and it hasn't been seen since. Was a famous car. Was known by those that saw it, cause it was a looker. Was known by those that ran behind it, cause that's the way it went. Drank from a can. Switched over to a Pete's Engineering blower with injectors by Lew "Sneaky Pete" Robinson, cause he was family like. In 1956 that little roadster ran 139.85 in the 1/4 mile at the drags.
In 1954, that little roadster in a different configuration ran 177 something out on the salt as a C Roadster. Of course it also had a 177 on the side and was a Bronzey/Coppery color just like the Coupe car number 176 that ran a little faster. The coupe was much lower, and was slightly chopped....Much less drag. But hey, pushing a brick starts to hurt at some point. There's a few color pictures out there from the early days of Hot Rods at Bonneville, and in a few of those pictures, you'll see how race cars morph.
This is the lost Art Chrisman Land Speed Record Roadster / Drag Roadster.
Feature car January 1957 Hot Rod.
Cover Car June 1960 Rods Illustrated.
I've been looking for this thing for most of my life. At a minimum, I want the rest of the story so I can stop looking for it. I've probably seen every Model A roadster and 32 chassis that is in motion film or still pictures that cab be found online. I'm going a little crazy still looking for it. In an ideal world, I'd get it and make it go again. For those that have the dollar signs floating over their heads when they see something like this with the history.....I'm not about the dollars, and I probably could not afford to purchase or restore it if it was anywhere close to market value. But I am a car hoarder. I regret selling the three cars that I have sold in my 50 years. I still have 8...maybe 8.5 cause one is taking up two spaces with the frame sitting next to it. Tough call. Anyway. KickAssGarage is not about the tools, or the cars, it's about the fact that I live in a modest 1200 square foot house, and I attached 1500 square feet of garage to it. My garage is larger than my house because adult toys need their own living space.
