President Trumps Impeachment Takes Shape and More MAGA Candidates Emerge For 2022

The Article of Impeachment for President Donald Trump's Second Impeachment has been delivered to the Senate and the proceedings will take place the Week of February 8th as expected. Chief Justice John Roberts is supposed to precede over the proceedings, but as President Trump is not a sitting President, he does not have to precede over the Senate Trial. Seeing how this is a deferable situation for a member of the Supreme Court, Roberts took the low road and defers his responsibility to the Senate President Pro Tempore, Patrick Leahy of Vermont. So glad that's settled.

But with that said, Senator Leahy is as old as dirt and it looks like he is on the cusp of retirement. Earlier today, Ohio Senator Rob Portman announced he will not seek another term, joining a growing list of Senators (Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Richard Burr of North Carolina) to bow out ahead of the 2022 Cycle.

So enter the MAGA/Populist candidates for the open seats and Primary susceptible positions! Sarah Huckabee Sanders, daughter of Mike Huckabee and former White House Press Secretary for President Trump announced her candidacy for Governor of Arkansas. She is not running from her Trump affiliation and it is front and center of her announcement video.

Perhaps the Office of the Former President will have something to do with organizing the overhaul of the Republican Party.
