Your stomach’s job is to help digest the food you eat. One way that it does this is through the stomach acid, also known as gastric acid. In this video, Dr. J discusses the main component of stomach acid: hydrochloric acid, its possible effects on your gut, and how to fix it.

Your stomach acid helps you break down and digest your food. Sometimes, a higher than average amount of stomach acid can increase, leading to symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, and heartburn. Several causes of increased stomach acid include H. pylori infection, rebound effects from medication withdrawal, etc. If left untreated, increased stomach acid can lead to complications like ulcers or GERD.

If you have these issues, Dr. J suggests prioritizing good food consumption, proper hydration, and increase nutrients and enzymes to avoid further inflammation of the gut.
