King Ramses II, also referred to as Ramesses the Great, was Pharaoh III of the Nineteenth Dynasty. He is seen as the most famous and most powerful pharaoh throughout the era of the Egyptian Empire. His successors and subsequent rulers called him the Greatest Grandfather. Ramses II led several military campaigns into the Levant and restored Egyptian control over Canaan.
