Martin Geddes On Future Internet - Paradigm Shift - with Robert David Steele

Summary of the first part:
• The internet we have at the moment is just a prototype based on not even the best ideas in the 1970s. It was the politically expedient option of DARPA. Our understanding has come on leaps and bounds since then.
• It’s a bit like steam trains vs diesel vs electric vs magnetic. We aren’t looking for a better steam train, we’re looking for something that is fundamentally better. And that requires us to go back to some of the basics and fix some of the underlying engineering. Because what we have today is pretty ramshackle and very complex, as a result, difficult to scale, hard to cure and expensive to run.
• The current system of computing is about a control paradigm: the human is somewhere outside; user or programmer: a person who puts input into the machine or gets output from the machine. The human is a second order thing and the machine is the first order thing. This leads us to an unconscious psychopathic paradigm and ultimately to an existential threat of transhumanism. So the control paradigm of Artificial Intelligence – who sets up the data sets, who makes the decision engines and for what purpose – that enables psychopaths to take more and more control and power over us.
• So what we have at the moment is, we’re unconsciously locked into a 1970s, even 1930s paradigm of what computing is, which treats EVERYTHING out there as if it’s a relational database record. It’s like the human is a second order thing.
• There a problem, there’s a fundamental problem here, which is, we’re moving from a world of symbolic data processing, you know, your banking records, to a sensory world. So this very web cam, this very microphone here, are part of a sensory world…. It’s like the Apple watches, fit bits and cameras everywhere, etc.
• We’re moving from a hypertext symbolic world - reading web pages, so Social Media - hyper messaging to hyper-sense. Right, so the nature of web is moving beyond it’s symbolic world to a sensory world. And that is a paradigm change.
• We cannot allow the psychopathic morals that are built in to the current computing industry to dominate that world because it will lead to slavery. We just have to look at how our avatars are treated by social media companies, we can be de-platformed / we get digitally assassinated.
• So there’s a paradigm change we have to engage in.
• Actually, a little harbinger of this. If you think, like phone calls, and you think of that eek feeling you get when you get recorded, even right now, before this call, even though I know it’s you and you’re a friend, I feel nervous. It’s very different when I’m sitting down writing an essay on a laptop.
• So the way humans relate to being recorded - intimate bio-sense data, voice is one example, is very very different to how we relate to our name and address and billing details being processed. Make sense?
