Deimos is the smaller of the two moons of Mars. Like its sibling moon Phobos, it has a dusty “regolith” covered surface, and is made of rocky material. Because Deimos is made from the same materials as many asteroids, some scientists think that both Deimos and Phobos used to be asteroids in the asteroid belt.
