Here's a new patriotic video of a great song called "God Loves America". The music and images hearken back to a time when our Founding Fathers clearly saw the writing on the wall. They sensed what future generations might have to face, when they wrote: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed..."

"You know the thing", and the thing is that if old Benjamin Franklin hadn't stood up that day back in 1787, then this sacred text we call our beloved Constitution might not exist today. Delegates from the 13 Colonies had been sent to Philadelphia to forge a document that would serve as the law of the land. But they couldn't agree on several things, especially state's rights. Tempers flared and they argued vehemently for 3 long months during what was a very hot summer. New York's delegation had already left in protest, and others were about to follow suit.

So it was that Ben Franklin rose slowly to his feet, then the oldest member of the group, and spoke the following words of wisdom: "I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth - that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?"

The room was silent. They were stunned by the gravity of his words, which had clearly struck a chord with those early Americans. He went on to make a motion that from that day forward Congress should open in prayer each day, seeking the Divine Hand of Providence in all decisions we would have to make as a nation. They prayed then and there as one united body, and from that day forward, through all succeeding generations up to this very day, this sacred and hallowed tradition has remained the bedrock spiritual cornerstone of these United States of America.

We should likewise take a moment to pray, and remember that it's prayer alone - and all the good actions that spring from it - that will serve as the torch lighting the pathway of our posterity.
