WHAT'S A LEFT-LONG TURN?! | DRIVING LESSONS WITH MR. T. | BE AN EXCELLENT DRIVER | DRIVE TO SAVE LIVES

What's a "left-long" turn and why do we call it that? Find out as Mr. T. narrates through it.

And note:

--A "long left" turn is simply a left turn; the word "long" reminds you that you are driving "long" straight across the intersection before you make the actual turn (as opposed to a "short" turn when you are making a right).

--Roadways are paved one lane at a time, so you will usually find a "seam" in the middle of every roadway, usually right between each of the lanes.

-- It's important to become aware of that seam; it will help you to keep your car in your lane, to the side of the seam.

-- Then, when you've mastered noticing the seam in the road between the lanes, you will want to master finding the discoloration in the lane itself.

-- If you look carefully, you will always find that the middle of your lane has a clear line of discoloration, meaning that the entire line of the center of your lane will be either slightly darker or slightly lighter.

-- The discoloration is caused by oil and fluid leaks from the thousands of cars that have driven on that road, and when drivers become aware of it, it helps them to stay in the middle of the lane and not drift to the side.

-- So if you are having trouble staying in the midle of the lane, then look for that discoloration, and you will find it easier to stay in the center of the lane.

-- This is another example of "line of sight/path of travel" which means that your hands will steer the vehicle where your eyes are looking.

KEEP SAFETY ITEMS IN YOUR TRUNK:

Safety items are essential: a vest, a tire gauge, cones, flares, and other items may never be used, but they are the things that when you need them, you really need them and are really glad you have them.

Also don't forget to put some peppermints and granola bars into your glove compartment for use in case you become drowsy and aren't able to pull over because of weather or locale. Usually eating those will give you a lift and keep you alert until you're able to pull over safely.
