I used to live in fear that people would leave me and I’d end up alone. In this video, we’re learning how to overcome the fear of abandonment so we can live our lives to the fullest!

During our first years on this planet, we are almost totally dependent on other people, especially our parents. They provide us with food, shelter, and affection. But what happens when we don’t receive the affection we need to grow up strong and healthy, emotionally?

Life can be tough and unpredictable sometimes, and people too. And if we haven’t intentionally learned how to process our emotions in healthy ways, our brains will soon enough take over and try to keep us “alive” by limiting our experience. The thing is, for the most part, we don’t even realize we’re limiting ourselves more and more.

So we end up thinking our sources of love and well-being come from people. We start trying to hold on to them tighter and tighter, but when the people around us disappoint us, and they all will, we end up feeling afraid that we’ll eventually end up alone. Left unattended, fear can be a powerful motivator, and if our brain starts seeing the fear of abandonment as a threat, it will continue to offer us destructive coping mechanisms to save us from this threat!

But of course, the Bible teaches us the healthy way to look at our reality, ourselves, and most importantly God. He is the one we can put our trust in. He is the one who will never leave us or forsake us! Let’s learn how to overcome the fear of abandonment so that we can be free indeed, as Jesus promises us!
