Building a Duck Hutch

I made a hutch for our ducks! This is a slightly complex build, but nothing too daunting if you keep your wits about you. You can use this hutch for ducks, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.

If your hutch is going to be somewhere where rain can fall on it, you will want a more formal (potentially metal) roof than my simple OSB roof here.

Materials
16x 2x4s (8')
2x 1x4s (8')
2x OSB (4'x8')
1x Linoleum (48"x30")
1/4" Hardware cloth
3.5+" deck screws
1" deck screws
Staples

Lumber Cuts
1. Front legs: cut 2x 2x4s with a 10 degree angle on 1 end, to 65 9/32" on the long side
2. Back legs: cut 2x 2x4s with a 10 degree angle on 1 end, to 60" on the short side
3. Front & back, floor & roof beams: cut 4x 2x4s to 45"
4. Left & right floor beams: cut 2x 2x4s to 23"
5. Left & right roof beams: cut 2x 2x4s with a 10 degree angle on both ends in parallel, to 23 11/32"
6. Floor supports: cut 2x 2x4s to 27"
7. Roof rafters: cut 2x 2x4s with a 10 degree angle on both ends in parallel, to 27 13/32"
8. Floor: cut 1x OSB to 48" x 30", and cut out each corner (1.5" x 3.5") for the legs
9. Roof: cut 1x OSB to 48" x 31 15/32"
10. Back: cut 1x OSB to 48" x 27" -- cut a window if necessary
11. Sides: cut 2x OSB to 30.5" wide, 32 9/32" on the front edge, 27" on the back edge
12. Door: cut 2x 1x4s to 48" (or 49" to stretch over the side)
13. Door: cut 2x 1x4s to 22 9/32" (or 25 9/32" to cover more of the doorway)
14. Door: cut 1x OSB to 44.5" x 18"
15. Door: cut 48"x10" hardware cloth

Assembly
1. Screw front legs to left and right beams
2. Screw back legs to left and right beams
3. Screw left and right side assemblies to front and back beams
4. Screw in rafters and floor supports
5. Lay down floor OSB and screw to floor beams and supports
6. Lay down linoleum and staple to floor
7. Screw back onto frame (staple hardware cloth first if you have a window)
8. Screw sides onto frame
9. Screw roof onto frame
10. Screw door frame together
11. Measure and place hinges
12. Staple hardware cloth to top of door
13. Screw OSB to the rest of the door
14. Staple the rest of hardware cloth to the OSB
15. Attach the door to the hutch
