The tune, “Lobe den Herren, O meine Seele,” is of anonymous authorship. The tune and text first appeared in 1665 in the appendix of the hymnal Neu-vermehrte Christlich Seelen-Harfe (1664) as a versification of Psalm 103. Today the tune appears in 19 different American Hymnals.
