San Antonio Essex Art Mural Exhibit

Essex Art is billed as the largest Outdoor Mural Gallery in San Antonio. Located near the downtown, south of the Alamo Dome, at 51 Essex Street. It's east of US 281 / IH-37, north of IH-10. It has become a popular tourist attraction. I took the Florida Street exit off of IH-37 south, then went east to Cherry Street, turned right until Essex Street and made another right turn onto Essex Street.

Situated on San Antonio’s Near East Side, which has seen a surge of redevelopment in recent years, Essex Modern City looks to boast new premium residential and commercial spaces close to downtown. They have converted the sides of abandoned buildings and warehouse bays on the former industrial complex into giant canvases for artists. It featured street art by local artists and the panels tend to change over time. As of the date I visited, those residential and commercial spaces were still in the planning stage. I found one article online that said they hoped to be done by the end of 2021, but that the Covid-19 crisis has slowed down the project.

Their official posted hours were 9-5pm, M-F, and closed on weekends, but the gate to the outside murals was open when I visited there on a late Saturday afternoon. Find out more on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/essexmoderncity

I do take requests from folks that want to see different types of aerial photography / videos from areas they might not be able to access from the ground. I tend to avoid flying in residential neighborhoods because there are too many folks who see a drone and think it is spying on them. I'm not sure what they think would be that interesting, or how a relatively noisy drone could sneak up on anyone.

I flew the DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone for this video, recording in 4K / 30fps. Video Editing software was Wondershare Filmora 9.5. Music was from Epidemic Sound and was called "She Is Whimsical" by Arthur Benson.
