City council races might not catch the attention of many Los Angelenos, but perhaps they should. We welcome back veteran journalist Jerry Sullivan, who says if voters were more concerned, they could put a stop to the corruption among local councils.

In Los Angeles alone, there are 15 city councils, and low election turnouts have made it easier to land a seat. However, with little transparency, some city councils lack accountability and have become rife with corruption. If this continues, it could stop L.A. from becoming one of the best cities in the country.
