Are we really moving towards Communism?

Is Communism the ultimate goal of these moves, or is that a red herring intentionally seeded among freedom lovers? We have seen how short those regimes are, and we know that the goal of those who have created this kind of technological/indoctrinated control is to aim for a much longer regime. Retaining the illusion of freedom is much less likely to result in an outright revolt like we normally see in directly authoritarian regimes- communism and dictatorships included.

*When I say "warranted" I don't mean warranted in reality, I mean from the perspective of those who advocate for the destruction of freedom of speech.
