Shaping an Arrowhead for Your New Arrow with Primitive Tools

The first step to shaping a primitive arrowhead is to select the right stone, and that means knowing what not to use as well. In this case Bryan selects a piece of chert that has smooth surfaces as opposed bumps and ridges. Knapping is the process of chipping away the stone to form it into the shape you want (in this case an arrowhead). Brian's knapping tools are made from moose and deer antlers. In the previous video we made the arrow shaft. In the next video we'll attach the arrow head to the shaft (which is called "hafting").
