The Expulsion of the Jesuits from Portugal in 1759

The Jesuits are expelled from Portugal after having been found to have committed the crime of sodomy. We read at the bottom of this plate: 'This sword is still stained with the blood of the sodomites.' The 1761 engraving shows a winged warrior representing the government of Portugal throwing fire bolts at sodomites, namely the Jesuit priests who were promptly banished from Portugal.
