As we’ve seen so far, Satan (the dragon), not only uses deception (a/k/a the False Prophet), to wage war against Christ’s Church, he also uses violent persecution by the state (a/k/a the beast). These ‘beastly’ world governments empowered by Satan not only do evil against God’s people, they also assume rights that only God has. We can't read chapters 17 & 18 of the book of Revelation and not see the relevance of it to today. For us, this has manifested itself in things like giving others the right to unjustly take life at will, such as the legalizing of abortion , or in the form of the government stepping in to meet all the needs of the people they rule over, resulting in its citizens looking to the government for help and sustenance rather than to God.
