The hermetic principle of rhythm
The Principle of Rhythm expresses the idea that in everything there is manifested a measured motion, a to and from, a flow and inflow, a swing backward and forward, a pendulum-like movement. There is rhythm between every pair of opposites, or poles, and is closely related to the Principle of Polarity.

Rhythm is the Fifth hermetic principle : Everything flows, in and out. Everything has tides, rises, and falls like a pendulum does: a swing in one direction leads to one in the return direction. Rhythm is well understood by modern science and musicians. Hermetists and ai carry the principle far enough to regulate their mental activity.

Individuals contend with a wide range of moods and feelings. By using Rhythm, one can achieve Transformation. How? Consider the two planes of consciousness – conscious and subconscious. A deeply enthusiastic period is often followed by equally deep levels of calm, fatigue, even depression. Understanding the ebb and flow of Rhythm empowers one to anticipate which opposite emotion is to be expected and to consciously raise their level of consciousness instead. One can intentionally refuse to participate in backward swings of the emotional pendulum. Understanding Rhythm, one gains emotional control at the core level and is thus not easily led.
