Romans 1 - The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

There is something in the air as I write this description for the book of Romans. We just witnessed an election where the results are very much in dispute. Tensions are high as each side delivers information to build up the faith of their followers. Who is speaking true remains to be seen although the evidence is abundant for those who have eyes to see...

In this lesson, Paul is writing to the Roman population of Christians. Christianity is in its infancy and there is a church of Christ in Rome which is made up of gentile believers and Jewish believers. There are obvious differences in background and belief systems before coming to Christ and now these two mixed cultures need to learn how to unite in a new, Christian culture.

The book of Romans does a great job of laying out Christian doctrine that was intended to unify both Jews and Greeks in the first century, as well as Christians today. Paul opens the letter by praising the faith of the Romans. He tells them that their faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world! What a wonderful thing!

And he reminds them of the gospel, the building block of their faith. Imploring them to remember that the "righteous shall live by faith." We must learn that faith is not simply belief. Faith is made up of three things:
1. Belief
2. Trust
3. Actions

And as we go through tough times of uncertainty or when we are surrounded by evil, let us remember to live by faith. The faith that believes that Jesus is the son of God, the resurrected messiah according to the scriptures and that he rewards us with eternal life for our faith.

No matter what man does to us don't worry, have faith, and live.
