Did you know that 600,000 people die around the world each year from passive smoke or secondhand smoke? There are 41,000 deaths in the United States alone from secondhand smoke. The smoke doesn’t just destroy the lungs. It also destroys the inside of the arteries around the heart.

Seven million people worldwide who smoke die each year from smoking. About 480,000 of those deaths are from the United States alone.

One of the most common types of cancer worldwide is lung cancer. The highest rate of cancer deaths involves the lungs. Smoking is a major contributing factor. There are over 7,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke. Hundreds of these chemicals are toxic. Seventy of these chemicals are carcinogens (chemicals that can cause cancer).
