When you are a back or middle of the pack runner, you look for the easiest and quickest way to power hike up the hills when running in an ultramarathon.
The common method of power hiking will get you up the hills fast, but it takes a lot of energy. Yes, it is easier than running up hills. But it still takes almost as much work as running.
