Laboratory created (True, Cultured) Floating Point (Floating Zone, Horizontal Directional Crystallization or Bagdasarov Method) Pink Sapphire. Strong dichroic: change color from cranberry pink to reddish pink (scarlet) depends on cut stone orientation relative to the crystal main optical axis.
Pieces were sawn off from the slab shape crystal about 27 cm thick
Preventing a common question, why this material is better than Flame-Fusion? It has the natural Sapphire exceptional vitreous adamantine luster, unlike the Flame Fusion (Verneuil) corundum, but the production is more expensive.
Crystal was grown in VNIISIMS, RF, in mid 90-s
