Laboratory created (True, Cultured) Floating Point (Floating Zone, Horizontal Directional Crystallization or Bagdasarov Method) Ruby, pigeon blood to very slight purplish red shade. Practically no dichroism.
Pieces were sawn off from the slab shape crystal about 27 cm thick.
Preventing a common question, why this material is better than Flame-Fusion? It has the natural Ruby exceptional vitreous adamantine luster, unlike the Flame Fusion (Verneuil) corundum, but the production is more expensive.
Crystal was grown at VNIISIMS, RF, in mid 90-s
