What is the history of balloons?

You blow them up at parties, or for a water fight. Balloons have been a part of our celebrations for generations. We now ride in big balloons. We spell names with them or make figurines. A whole tourist industry spawn from the idea of blowing up a big balloon. And we still use balloons for proper weather forecasting.
