Any time I do a cover song, I try to use some of the most recognizable riffs from the original recording, while adding a few new riffs of my own.

I also felt like this song, being a vocal song, needed a solo section. Most of my recordings are instrumental in nature and don’t normally include a solo section. I hope you enjoy my arrangement.

“Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” by Hillsong United was the second and final single from their 3rd album titled, “Zion”, which was released on August 23, 2013.

The song written by Matt Cocker, Joel Houston and Salomon Lighthelm spent 61 weeks on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart and went triple platinum in the United States.

The song was about Peter’s trust in Jesus to walk on water and stepping into the unknown. Much of the melody was written at Joel Houston’s New York apartment.

It was recorded by vocalist Taya Smith who sang it in one take. The lyrics were completed the day of the recording.

The song won “Song of the Year” at the 2014 GMA Dove Awards.
