Ice Skating New Years 2021 Sam's Point Preserve

#HappyNewYear #2021 everyone. We were the first ones to the park where we visited the #Sam'sPointPreserve section of #MinnewaskaStatePark in the #Shawangunk Mountains on this trip. We wanted to do the #highpoint loop trail that continues past #VerkeerderKillFalls but as much as we debated it, the ice was just too treacherous to traverse without proper equipment like poles and #crampons or micro spikes. We did have a ball trying to walk the frozen grass adjacent to the carriage roads and even made some questionable ice crossings. The rocks, the road, even the sand was covered in a layer of ice. It was as mesmerizing as it was dangerous. We had a great time and even though we had to abandon the one trail to take the trail around #LakeMaratanza, we enjoyed it and did a little unintended #iceskating. Lastly, after taking in the views and teasing #hypothermia, we were able to view the #remnants of an old berry picker community. Some of the homes and items were well kept for being in the elements. The homes were somewhat smaller and Ola did not fit :).
