A joint venture on data protection and privacy in response to the COVID-19 pandemic

A joint statement on data protection and privacy in response to the COVID-19 pandemic was released today, after it was approved by the undersigned United Nations system organizations. The statement was developed by the United Nations Privacy Policy Group, an interagency group on data privacy and data protection, and supports the preventive use of data and technology by the United Nations in combating the current pandemic. The joint statement is based on the United Nations Principles for the Protection of Personal Data and Privacy in addition to the recommendations contained in the Secretary-General's data strategy on data protection, privacy and human rights.
