Why to northwest Kansas? Apart from moving to “Death Valley”, CA, or some extreme location in Alaska, few places offer the extremes of weather, the centrality to the whole of the contiguous 48 states, and the possibility of starting afresh humbly in “Morton” buildings.

The very locale would help congressional members focus on the work before them. Where, at present and by contrast, the spirit hovering over “D.C.” distracts and seduces would-be reformers from their original objectives.

This seduction follows along the lines of power and wealth. Rush Limbaugh, citing census bureau information, says the five (5) wealthiest counties in the U.S. are adjacent to “D.C.”. Here we have a manifestation of the wealth factor, which has no other basis in this same area.

The accumulation of this wealth derives simply from the political process with money flowing into the city and an inordinate amount staying. The lobbying dynamic would seem to be an integral part of this process.

The derivation of influence from the “power factor” is not so readily discernible, but seems to flow to those who have been in “D.C.” for awhile.

Term limits would do much to speak to both of these issues and, of course, as would a move of the capitol to northwest Kansas. All this seems unlikely until persons start talking about it.
