Are the Names in Isaiah 9 REALLY Names of Jesus?

Isaiah 9:6 is often cited at Christmas time, and even the Christmas song "For Unto Us" was written based on it (link to it below). In this verse, Isaiah lists four names for the Messiah: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

I look at whether these are actually four names of Jesus and what they mean. First, I briefly summarize the biblical and historical contexts. Next, I explain that they are not literal names, but titles. Finally, I examine what these titles reveal about Messiah.

These four names tell us about the nature, role, and authority of Jesus the Messiah. We discover that he is fully God and fully man. We learn that he is a righteous leader who cares for and saves his people. We also learn than Jesus is the divine King of kings.

I close the video by reminding believers that Jesus is helping his people today through the Holy Spirit and Scripture. Christians should follow and trust Jesus in their lives so they can continually know, show, and share the gospel of Jesus.
