新型コロナ感染において、PCR検査が用いられています。しかしながら、PCR検査の結果は、陽性か陰性の2分法で表されています。このようなアバウトな表記で良いのでしょうか。
　PCR法は、DNAを試験管内で増殖させる方法で、理論上1サイクルで2倍に増えます。Nサイクルでは、２のN乗に増加します。サンプル中のDNA量、すなわちおよそのウイルスの数がわかるという検査法です。新型コロナ感染者の同定において、検体中のウイルス量が示されることはありません。同症の結果死亡したとされる患者においても、ウイルス量が示されることがないのです。このウイルスで死亡したというのであれば、おびただしい数のウイルスが検出されるはずです。そのために、ウイルスの数の算出は、このウイルスの病態を明らかにするために、重要な検査値になるはずです。また、健常者のソーシャルディスタンスやマスク着用の必要性においても、その根拠として、飛沫として排出するウイルス数が必要なはずです。しかしながら、このようなデータが示されることはありません。
　新型コロナ感染症の感染拡大が大きな社会問題と言いながら、ウイルス数のような重要なデータが示されないのは、おかしなことです。社会的な経済損失だけでなく、学校教育の正常化や人々の健康を維持するためにも、排出されるウイルス数のような科学的な根拠をもって、自粛、ソーシャルディスタンス、マスクの必要性を示すべきだと考えます。
