Little Town Texas Where the Local Bar may have been the Church

On this day we adventured out to this Little Texas Town where we found quiet a few abandoned buildings. Some were hollowed out, caved in and just lay in decay. One of the old buildings actuallly had a date of 1926 on it which gave a window in time, so fascinating to walk through this old school house. Across the street was a friendly neighbor who also gave a little history on the town, stating that it was nearly declared the state capital in Texas, nearly... missing by only a few votes when Austin Texas became the state capital of Texas. Actually in 1850, the town came in second in an election held to decide the new Texas state capitol, which Austin ultimately won. We explored the old school house, a couple of really old store fronts, what appeared to be the towns center and old main street if you will, very small and an old time gas station, use to be referred to as filling stations (Fillin' Stations). Now I'm not sure if what looked like an old bar was really used as a Church or not. However I did see a cross on the top of the building that made me think, this could be the situation. We found another really old gas station down the road, remember when the restrooms were on the outside and you had to run inside and ask for the restroom key to get in them? Good times, old times! We also noticed often in these small old towns many people live in old houses that appear from the outside as they're falling apart, the houses and garages appear as if they're leaning or crooked and you just know no one is living there! Don't be fooled! More often than not, they're being lived in, so beware and do not just walk inside thinking it's abandoned, you may be in for a surprise if you happened to walk on in one. Never the less it is a friendly one horse town with stuff to see. That's what is so fascinating about exploring small towns, you never know what you'll run into or what you may find and it's not like you have a guided tour so you may come to your own conclusions or create your own stories to tell.
