Chase Freedom Q1 2021 Categories REVEALED!

Hey credit warriors, well tomorrow Chase will announce the Q1 categories for the Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex, but I have a way to find out one day before you all receive the emails, so we will go through the quarter one categories in just a moment, but first a little reminder on the quarter 4 categories that we still have some time to use up. They are Walmart and paypal.Show more

So this means you can earn 5% cash back which is convertible into 5x UR points if you have a sapphire or ink card, on up to $1500 of spending in those categories in quarter 4 2020.

Now if you have paypal key, which is a virtual card that you can use anywhere online that mastercard is accepted, you can run your Freedom Flex through that and then every transaction is a paypal transaction and gets 5%. You may want to check it with a small transaction first to make sure it is getting 5%, but I have seen multiple reports that it does indeed work. Or just do your grocery shopping at walmart and you could even buy some gift cards for spending you will do in the new year, just to max it out. This is especially useful if you have just got the Freedom Flex, because you have 15 months 0% APR, so you could carry a balance by pre paying for things through buying gift cards and not pay any interest.

I haven’t maxed it out yet, so I may well end up doing that before the end of the year.

Now, on to quarter one of 2021. Are you ready? The categories are…

Wholesale Clubs
Internet, Cable, & Phone Services
Select Streaming Services

Now out of these, the one that really interests me is wholesale clubs, since the others tend to be quite small bills, Netflix is like $14 a month, that is only $42 for the quarter. Also changing your card with your phone provider is a hassle, you may forget to change it back, that is what Chase wants! But if I go do my grocery shopping at sam’s club, I can easily max it out in a few weeks! So my strategy for this will definitely be shopping at wholesale clubs.

Now do remember that you need to activate these categories, you will be able to activate them from tomorrow onwards. The chase freedom and the freedom flex both have the same categories, even though the Freedom isn’t available to new card members anymore.
