Underwater release on Rainbow Trout

The Deschutes River Canyon in Central Oregon is known for its spectacular views, however it is also known for its Deschutes Redside trout and Steelhead, a sea run trout. Watch as Mrs Mondavi from Napa Valley catches, kisses and releases this beautiful Redside trout.
I had floated the river many times over the years. These trips begin in in Trout Creek or Maupin, Oregon and end at the mouth of the great Columbia river. The spey rod has become a favorite go to rod to fish for these steelhead on the fly. If you would love a float trip with spectacular views and a chance of catching wild steelhead head up to 12 pounds, this may be for you.
*Warning: when Steelhead take your fly, let them take about 6-12 inches (I place a loop 6-12 inches between my fingers) , as the loop slides between my fingers, I then take the rod and give a quick yank. This 2-3 second time will ensure you get the hook in their mouth. DO NOT do a Bass set rod straight in the air hook up. This took me awhile to feature out, being a bass fisherman I wanted to lift the rod and set hard. Let the Steelhead hook themselves. Fight on.
I have done this trip for years and there are 2 ways to fish for these mighty Steelhead. First is float the river from Maupin to the mouth in 3 days and two nights. The second is to start at the mouth and jet boat up a few miles and camp. The jet boat has the ability to cover more fishable water verses floating down the river. I recommend doing both.
