Replacing the Pitman and Idler Arm to remove play in the steering linkage on a 1994 C1500. Note: Some brands of idler arm have a hole in the side which allows you to lock it up while installing the nut. Also, removing the idler arm bracket or replacing it for an extra $40.00 makes this installation easier.

This is a great video. If you had replaced the idler arm bracket too, then you would not have had as much trouble getting the idler arm and the pittman arm off and on. By doing that, and spending about $40 more, it would have save you a little bit more time and frustration. These older ones are a lot easier to work on than the newer ones though. Thanks again.

The C1500 has more working room then some other models! If this is not your model then you may need to remove the outer tie rods from the steering knuckles and use "J6632-01" to pull the pitman arm off!

Some people have had to cut a notch into the cross member to get the pitman arm off without the designated puller: http://chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php?topic=114705.0
