A comet is a small, icy snowball in the sky that often has a tail. But comets don't last very long. Each time they swing around the sun they become smaller. The sun evaporates the comet's ice and dust particles then break free. That's what forms the comet's tail. But comets only last a few million years. That we still see comets today is more evidence the earth is young.
