Tom's DIY Builds: Slide Out Welding Table

Like many other builders, I'm working out of my home's two car garage and my wife is ok with the "shop" as long as she can pull her car in at night. That's forced me to get creative with space utilization and functionality.
Since I don't do a lot of welding, I didn't want a dedicated table that would take up floor space in the garage so I designed and built a slide-out welding table using heavy duty drawer slides with a 500 pound capacity I found on Amazon. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07...)

This works like a champ!! As you'll see in one screen shot, I'm (200 lbs) standing on the slide out frame and it didn't give an inch! I did have to anchor the back of the bench to the wall so it wouldn't tip forward but very happy with how this turned out.

One thing to note is you'll need to clean the drawer slides after welding / grinding on the table as the steel "dust" gets in the bearings and will make it difficult to slide in and out. A little WD40 and some paper towels and they're good as new!
