Pearl Harbor: Day of Remembrance

The Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service launched a surprise attack against the naval base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu just before 8:00 am on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, and the next day the United States declared war on the Empire of Japan. This video features Archive footage shot on the day of the attack by Al Brick, who was a photographer sent by Movietone News to Hawaii. His dramatic film shows the destruction of the naval station as well as the explosion that sank the USS Arizona. 188 US Aircraft were destroyed, 2.403 Americans were killed and 1.178 more were wounded during the attack. The surrender of Imperial Japan was announced by Emperor Hirohito on August 15 and was formally signed on September 2, 1945 on board the USS Missouri thus bringing the War in the Pacific to a conclusion. On August 23, 1994 the US Congress designated December 7 as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Events are scheduled each year at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial and they culminate at a ceremony held on December 7.

December 7th will always be remembered as a day that "will live in infamy".
