Contrary to the original video, I think combat mechanics work well for the medium of video games: there is large variety in genres and applications of combat mechanics – they are everywhere, and they are fun! Just as stories are well suited for books and movies, and points are well suited for sports, I would put forward that combat is well suited for video games.
