Time to Start Working with This Spring's Foals
Late summer to early fall is the time to begin working on the previous spring's foals. They're still much too young to ride, so what is worked on now is creating trust, responding to a person, getting used to having a blanket on their back and moving under direction, and responding to having their head pulled to the side.
Working on all of these things now makes the process of learning to carry a rider much easier when the time comes.
This young colt is Drift. He was born in April 2020 and was found in a snowdrift the morning he was born. He's a very sweet colt and likes people. Training him is going to be a lot of fun!
Get in touch with me at bill@rqhorsemanship if you have a young horse needing beginning training. We'll talk about my training openings and what we can do to get your young horse started off right.
