Carving a Simple Bowl From Oak

Having a way to hold stuff is pretty important no matter where you are. Now a days containers are made from glass, plastic and metal among other things. But back in the day they would have been made out of wood, clay, gourds, or animal hides.

Today I am showing a few ways to hollow out wood. I have a hatchet/adz I made at my forge, I used a bit and brace and I used a wooden hammer and chisel for a major part of the project.

This is not the only way to do this, in fact, it is probably one of the worst ways of doing it. Endgrain is not nearly as easy to remove or as neat looking at the end as removing the crossgrain.
