The Disabled and The Church Accessibility

Do you know having a “Website Accessibility” for your church and faith based organization means people with a disability can have full access to your website and video messages. If they suffer from BLINDNESS, MOTOR IMPAIRMENT, COGNITIVE DISORDER, COLOR BLINDNESS, EPILEPSY, BLURRED VISION, HEARING LOSS, CATARACT, OLD AGE AND MORE, they can interface and move around your website without using a mouse or mouse pad.
It also means if your website can’t be accessed by the disabled community, you are not practicing an “inclusive” ministry.
95% of church and faith based organization websites are not accessible or have limited access to the “61 Million Americans” who suffer from a disability but use the internet daily.
To put this into perspective, these are countries that have an overall “population size including the disabled”:
Italy 60 Million,
Canada 37 Million,
Australia 25 Million,
and Ireland with 5 Million.
Most churches and organizations have accommodated the disabled community by installing wheelchair ramps, adding large-print bulletins and handicapped bathrooms. But there is one barrier that is overlooked when considering accessibility to your teachings and services, and that is your website! A church may appear to be “inclusive and welcoming” to all, but in today’s age of “Tech Ministry”, major questions have emerged! The issue of inclusion for disabled people is not about ramps and bathrooms, it’s about a change of mindset that sees people not as objects of charity but of equals.
IT’S NOT THE CHURCHES AND THE ORGANIZATIONS FAULT NOT TO BE INCLUSIVE TO THE DISABLED BECAUSE THE TECHNOLOGY OF TODAY WAS NOT AVAILABLE WHEN THEY WERE DESIGNING THEIR WEBSITES.
At “INCLUSIVE SPIRIT”, we offer all church and faith based organization websites a way to become compliant and inclusive to meet the needs of the disabled community. We will make your website accessible to people with disabilities so your website pictures, links and written content will be coded in such a way that screen-reading software and other assistive technology can convert the text words to an audio translation. Also, all your website interactive functions will be operable through keyboard commands for people who can’t use a mouse due to their disabilities. We also provide accessible video services where we customize a “closed captioned” text version of your message at the bottom of your videos, just like this one.

Please read below all the information on why an inclusive church website needs to be accessible in today’s age of Tech Ministry. You see, Tech Ministry is here to stay and needs to become a mission opportunity for you to use and say to the people who live with a disability…you are welcome here!
As a leader in your church and organization, you will want to listen to the video below. It was produced back in 2014 by a pastor from Bournemouth, England. The message is “The Disabled…..One Of The Least Evangelized People Groups In The World”…
It’s the most eloquent discipleship message ever given about inclusive ministry for the disabled. It also articulates in biblical terms why all churches and organizations must make the gospel accessible to the disabled person. Its message could have been written yesterday.
Here at “Inclusive Spirit” we welcome the opportunity to come alongside you to assist you in making your website accessible. We offer free website audits and direction on how to remove the barriers of inclusion and build the bridge to your community. Please contact us today. May God Bless You.
