1973 documentary about New York's 41st precinct located in the South Bronx. Cops nicknamed it Fort Apache due to it being such a high crime area.

Of a time it presents o the one hand a picture of desperate reality of the post 60s urban decay that followed in the wake of baby boomers leftist political activism yet the documentary shows media had already embraced their totalitarian mythos. Access to weapons is blamed for murders for example even as they show that many of the weapons confiscated are homemade.

But this besieged cop shop in the middle of an out of control city brings important context to the old school self defense training and tactics that have fallen out of favor. The shooting and other self defense techniques that are taught now are often the byproducts of the 20 year GWOT while prior techniques, now maligned as "fudd lore", developed on the drug and blood soaked streets of American cities in the midst of political and social upheaval.
