From the moment Donald J. Trump rode down the escalator in 2015 and announced his intention to run for president it was obvious that he was an “outsider candidate.” A career politician he was not. His candid and oftentimes brash style was a trait that attracted many voters and turned others off. Historically, Catholics have been pretty close to even down the political party lines This certainly held true for Catholics in the last presidential election where 52% voted for Trump and 48% voted against him. Many have seen the way the president has acted and concluded that he is a dishonest, racist and bigoted person. The question becomes if all of the charges are true, can the millions of Catholics who will undoubtedly support the president actually vote for him?
