Bore Tide Turnagain Arm, Alaska 2020
70
A moderate bore tide makes it way up Turnagain Arm in southeast Alaska. These rare, seductive, dangerous tides occur twice a day, churning up Cook Inlet from the ocean sometimes creating a wave over 6-feet high.
Hearty Alaskans surf it year-round, avoiding icebergs!
However, beware...do not get caught on the mud flats as many people and dogs have lost their lives trapped in the fast-rising, freezing water.
