Alamo City Trump Train Rally Sept 27th
Social media can be very informative, or it can be filled with lots of misleading information. Fortunately for me, I was given real information about upcoming Trump Train Rallies in the San Antonio (TX) metro area and was able to schedule some "drone flight time" for 2 of these events this weekend. There was another Trump Train Rally held on the NW side of town, at the same time frame as this one. Perhaps I'll visit it next weekend instead.
This Trump Train Rally was organized by the Alamo City Trump Train group on Facebook. Initially, the starting line was supposed to be at Rolling Oaks Mall on the NE side of San Antonio, but the Mall received complaints and revoked permission to use their parking lots. So the Latinos for Trump Victory HQ, located just south of Ingram Park Mall (also a Simon Management Property), and the decision was made to start from their parking lot instead.
Due to the large crowd that showed up, the organizers decided to keep the route simple and just take Loop 410 south from this parking lot and drive counter-clockwise all the way around the city. Unfortunately, a few drivers failed to take the ramp onto 410 immediately after exiting the parking lot, causing a huge traffic jam at the next intersection with Culebra Road.
There were a few businesses open on a Sunday afternoon who understandably wanted to restrict parking in front of their places, especially the furniture store, but the organizers had planned for this "problem" and had volunteers in lime green vests ready to intercept anyone who wasn't a customer, but wanted to park there. One handicapped driver, George, was asked nicely to relocate elsewhere, but as he was backing out of the handicap spot, a young (unidentified) employee inside the furniture store window, flipped him the double bird with their hands. Not very polite, but that was the worst of the comments that I overheard.
The parking lot was filled to the brim, with room for less than 50 more vehicles remaining by start time. Start time was announced as 2pm, but actual start time was 2:24pm. It only took about 20 minutes to empty out the parking lot with hundreds of vehicles. I did not count them, but if someone wants to freeze the video and start counting, feel free to post your count in the comments below. I'm thinking possibly as many as 250?
I flew the DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone, recording in 4K / 30fps. Video Editing software was Wondershare Filmora 9.5. Audio track recorded live during the event. Music was from Epidemic Sound.
