In the past 40 years, landslide counties -- where the Republican-Democrat vote divide is more than 20 points -- have increased from just 391 counties in 1980 to 1,726 today. According to The Wall Street Journal, the split manifests in everything from attitudes toward guns, COVID-19 and even church attendance.
